The Pole-seekers

This book is an animal adventure story, that takes place in the ice lands of Antarctica.
The main character is young Hackle, who is a ship's rat chosen to embark on a voyage to the South Pole where no rat has been before. It's Hackle who tells the story.
When they first arrive at the South Pole, the rats are amazed at the huge amounts of ice and snow. Their fur quickly grows longer and thicker as they get used to the conditions. When Hackle is chosen, along with his friend Eddie, to accompany their 'I-want-to-get-to-the-Pole-first-crazy' Commander, he has no idea of the perils they all face.

My favorite part of this book is when Hackle and his gang build a house out of ice. They planed to live there, but on the end they had to go back home. Every rat has its own room in there. They
always search for food and try to imagine to be in Antarctica the whole life.

The book is written by Meredith Hooper.
It's a (***) book for me.

Now this is a very interesting book, Emma. To write about Antarctica, even from a rat's point of view, requires a real knowledge of what it is like at the south pole. I wonder if Meredith Hooper has ever been?

I wonder if the rats represent humans who have been there, then all their lives, wish to go back?
